Namenayo! Merchandise

With a manga like Namenayo!, you wouldn't think that there'd be much merchandise made for it. But you'd be pleasantly surprised. Given that Namenayo! is based on a highly successful brand, the manga received a few pieces of merchandise during its run.

Stickers

Stickers featuring some of the main Namenayo! cast.

These stickers come from a Namenayo! sticker book featuring various Namenayo photos, with each sticker being a scene or a character from the classic photographs. One of these pages is dedicated to Namenayo! Nameneko Matakichi's Strongest Legend.

This page is pretty cool! It's presented like an actual page from the manga. There's so much energy present in each panel, and you can get a small glimpse of the characters' personalities. (Leo is the tough bad boy who has a rivalry with Matakichi, Chikuwa cares a lot about Matakichi and worries that he might get seriously injured in a fight, etc.) By the last panel, things start to cool down with Jigoro's chill demeanor, and Matakichi and Chikuwa go fishing. (Probably after the fight with Leo.)

Here's a translation of the dialogue:

Leo: MATAKICHIII!!!
Matakichi: NAMENAYO! (DON'T MESS WITH ME!)
Chikuwa: BIG BROTHER!!!
Jigoro: I'm ready to fight.
Matakichi: Fishing!

Another reason why I love these stickers is that they allow us to better appreciate Seto Kazuyoshi's artwork. The illustrations are drawn in full color, making the pages of the manga come to life. The characters are colored in a way that feels perfect for a manga or TV show. The backgrounds also help add to the overall mood of each panel, easily capturing the intensity of Namenayo!.

If you want to get this sticker sheet yourself, it's going to be pretty tricky. They show up from time to time on websites like Yahoo! Japan Auctions and Mercari but are heavily scarce. Despite the sheet's rarity, its actually really cheap, with the prices ranging around $4 to $6.

Final Chapter Special Art Piece

An art piece drawn by Seto Kazuyoshi to commemorate the final chapter of Namenayo! Nameneko Matakichi's Strongest Legend being published in CoroCoro Magazine.

On the same page the art piece was displayed, there was also a photo of Kazuyoshi holding it with some staff from CoroCoro. While this artwork was never given away, it holds the distinction of being even harder to track down than the Hip Hop in Cat City album. The art piece was only ever displayed on the official Nameneko website. If you ever wanted to see or even download the art for yourself, you needed to visit the website. That's why I was shocked to find out the site suddenly went offline.

Around mid-to-late 2025, the official Nameneko website was shut down. It's not known why it was taken down, but it probably has something to do with the website that hosted it. As stated earlier, all the material that was present on the website was exclusive to it and couldn't be found anywhere else. This led to most of it becoming lost. All the pages dealing with Nameneko Matakichi's Strongest Legend were affected the worst by this.

Fortunately, the website had the luxary of being the official website for a well-known artist and brand. So Nameneko.com was visited and archived by many people throughout the years. While some pages can still be viewed without any issues, others aren't as lucky. These pages range from being preserved with elements like images missing to being completely lost to time. Sadly, the web page that hosted the art piece falls under the latter.

For a while, the artwork was lost, and nobody could find it. I've tried to track it down myself, but searches never went anywhere. That was until January 9th, 2026, when I finally found it. While searching for physical copies of the manga online, I came across a Japanese web forum where people recommended manga and anime to other users. One user recommended Nameneko Matakichi's Strongest Legend and used the art piece as an example of what potential readers could find in the manga.

I thought the artwork would have been lost forever. But while the original image file was deleted alongside everything else on the official Nameneko website, another copy of it was floating around on an obscure web forum. Now this important art piece can continue to be enjoyed by Namenayo! fans forever and always.
